Fish Zhang captures her current home city of Tokyo with a street photographer’s keen eye of what’s going on around her. Her posed shoots, full of simple settings, are caught with a starkness that is rooted in those same snagging moments instead of perfection: it’s never the quality of her camera, or the magic of post-processing that will make or break one of her photos, but instead a beautiful instant in time, fleeting and impermanent. She uses flash liberally, guaranteeing that what is kept is what was seen, and what was real.
