As part of Format’s ongoing partnership with Booooooom, the online platform and authority in the world of art, we are pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Photography Awards. Booooooom saw an extraordinary response to the call for submissions, making their decision challenging, but a welcome opportunity to be exposed to new artists.
The five winners selected by Booooooom’s jury each represent a distinct category: PORTRAIT, NATURE, COLOUR, STREET, FASHION. Among other prizes, Format is proud to have supported Booooooom’s third annual Photography Awards by offering three lifetime subscriptions to winning photographers.
Winning photographers will also be profiled in our magazine!
In addition to the five winners, Booooooom has highlighted 20 shortlisted photographers (four from each category) whose work will be showcased in the publication as well. They also shared the names of an additional 150 photographers who were on Booooooom’s longlist. Ultimately the winners, shortlist, and longlist represent an extremely small portion of the work they received this year.

WINNER: 2024 Booooooom Photo Awards “PORTRAIT”
PORTRAIT WINNER: Photo by Alex Bex
Alex Bex is a French-Texan photographer based in Berlin. His current post-documentary work explores the impact of popular visual media on traditional representations, particularly the subject of masculinity and its social construction.
WINNER: 2024 Booooooom Photo Awards “COLOUR”
COLOUR WINNER: Photo by Megan Eagles
Megan Eagles is a self-taught photographer based in Camberwell, London with her family, a cat and 7 chickens. Shooting on film with natural light, she describes her work as “people-focused stories with a documentary slant”.

FASHION WINNER: Photo by Asafe Ghalib
Asafe Ghalib from Nilopolis, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, and based in London since 2013. Self-taught, they work primarily with the medium of photography in collaboration with the LGBTQIA+ community. Ghalib has been exploring photography as a way of survival and an opportunity to tell neglected stories.

NATURE WINNER: Photo by Grant Harder
Grant Harder lives in Vancouver with his wife and two kids. Whether he’s photographing people or places his desire is to capture an honest image (as honest as a photo can be), and it’s clear he has a deep appreciation for nature.

STREET WINNER: Photo by Ernesto Cabral de Luna
Ernesto Cabral de Luna is a Mexican lens-based artist working in Toronto. Drawing from his immigrant experience, his work explores themes of identity and representation, as well as the relationship between memory, dislocation, and displacement.
