Self-funded online portfolio service ranks number 24 on this year’s PROFIT 500 list.
Formathas been listed as #24 on the 2017 PROFIT 500, a ranking of Canada’s fastest-growing companies released today. The list is compiled annually by PROFIT and Canadian Business magazine, and ranks businesses by their percentage sales growth over the last five years.
Founded in 2010 by CEO Lukas Dryja and CPO Tyler Rooney, Format is a proudly self-funded company that empowers creative professionals by helping them create a beautifully-designed online portfolio. The company recorded 2,478% growth over the last five years, and in the same period expanded worldwide, with users in every country with an internet connection.
Creative professionals using Formatas their online portfolio platform have gained worldwide recognition in The New York Times, Vogue, National Geographic, and Magnum Photos. We’ve seen emerging artists grow to work with clients ranging from Nike to Kanye West.
The companies on this year’s PROFIT 500 list range from operations with hundreds of employees to those with just a few, and from established businesses to relatively young ones. Their industries run the gamut from tech, to manufacturing, retail, and professional services.
Altogether, PROFIT 500 companies had a median growth rate of 239%, and contributed $15.2 billion to the Canadian economy last year. They are some of North America’s most dynamic businesses and Format is proud to be among those recognized.
Dryja and Rooney launched Format with no outside funding, just one simple goal: create an online portfolio platform that is highly customizable, yet easy-to-use. As an OCAD University grad with a communications design background, Dryja saw the need for a portfolio platform that was uniquely tailored to his peers in the creative community.
In the past few years, Format has quickly become a global leader in its field and the platform of choice for photographers, artists, designers, illustrators and stylists due to its design-forward sensibility, user-friendly interface, and round-the-clock customer support.
“Being recognized as one of Canada’s fastest-growing businesses is exciting and motivating,” says Format CEO and co-founder Lukas Dryja. “I’m thrilled to share this achievement—a reflection of the strength of our product and determination of our team—with everyone who has contributed to Format to date, employees past and present, partners, supporters, and the Canadian tech community at large.”
As the company grows and adds Novos recursos, three principles guide the approach: make it simple, make it flexible, make it beautiful.
Format is based in Liberty Village, Toronto, and was previously named to the PROFIT Startup 50, ranking as one of Canada’s Top New Growth Companies in 2016.
