Broncos, 2014

As a final tribute to the Native American Series, Raimondi was inspired to build Broncos, a highly stylized sculpture depicting the wild horses that roamed the west after the Spanish explorers lost or abandoned them in the 16th and 17th Centuries and they multiplied into herds of feral horses. Native Americans soon began capturing and training them. Because of their wild, fearless nature, strength and endurance, broncos (or mustangs) were perfect war horses for many tribes (in particular the Apache, Navajo, Utes, Comanche and Shoshone) in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Boosted by structural steel beams, this sculpture will be a magnificent monument when realized in full scale, towering 58 feet in height. However, to date this sculpture has only been fabricated in smaller scale.
