Behind Closed Doors
Imagine if your mind categorised your emotions, each of them contained within their own room inside your head, and each of them playing out their own scenes behind closed doors.
Through my experiences and observing those around me, I have been led to wonder how the mind controls emotions and mental states, such as happiness, frustration and despair, and how we try to oppress or embrace them.
So what might it be like inside the rooms of these emotions and mental states? We can be free to invent our own depictions of how we think these rooms would appear. Through photography, this series of works explore a dark old house and invites the viewer to walk into the rooms with anticipation of knowing there’s something interesting to see behind each door.
Good and bad, I see all emotions and mental states as being necessary for the creative process and for the life experience itself, and that they should all be embraced and valued as part of our being.
