Beauty depends on the soul and exposure to life. I was lucky cause I was born in a poor family, my father spent 10 years as a prisoner in Germany and the women in my family grew strong. My mother was a miracle! That's beauty.

For me Beauty is both physical and mental. I don't think there are women less beautiful than others or that there's something that makes them unbeautiful; I think that beauty should be subjective and that every woman is beautiful for someone somewhere around the world. It's all about personal taste.

I don't feel either sublime nor ugly. I accept myself for how I am and how I look and I am very comfortable with my body. I know my girlfriend finds me fantastic and the feeling is mutual, i think that's all it matters!

Do you feel beautiful? you know, as women we can be so hard on ourselves…we pick ourselves a part and scrutinize all of our faults. i use to be really hard on myself physically but a few years ago i started feeling so much more comfortable in my own skin. i feel beautiful because i feel so loved, by my friends and my family. I have a fella that tells me I'm beautiful everyday and he sees me at my worst and still finds me lovely and beautiful. That sort of unconditional love changes the way you see yourself.

Women are constantly bombarded by messages that tell us we are not enough just as we are. That we need to buy a plethora of products - or even resort to surgery - to make ourselves more beautiful. We are often our own toughest critics. In addition to this, especially when it comes to celebrity culture, it’s very common to tear women down publicly, pointing out perceived flaws (“look at the cellulite on X celebrity” or “Y looks so ugly without makeup”). This practice has to stop. Men’s bodies are not the subject of such close scrutiny; they live their lives without carrying this big weight on their shoulders. Because of this, I would never ever dare tell a woman that she is not beautiful. Throughout her life, she has already faced so much scrutiny and criticism. But if we were to go below the surface and judge inner beauty, I think that envy, jealousy and bitterness are incredibly unattractive qualities.
Do you feel beautiful?
I do, now. Of course, like any woman, I’ve experienced feelings of insecurity, shame and inadequacy about my body. But ever since I started working on my documentary The Illusionists, I realized that one of the main sources of this insecurity was the constant propaganda by media, advertising and the fashion industry. The beauty we see displayed on billboards, in magazines, on TV and on screens all around us is a narrow, manufactured beauty that excludes 99% of the population. Witnessing how there is an epidemic of body dissatisfaction around the world has completely changed the way I see myself. I am incredibly grateful for my body – especially for all the things it allows me to do.

Genuine kindness. I’m a people watcher and am alone a lot so whenever I’m waiting or walking around, I observe people’s emotions and interactions with one another. People are most beautiful when they give a little piece of themselves to the world through something as simple as a smile.

It’s all in how a woman carries herself. In the way she treats others, in the way she loves, her passions, her hopes, her dreams. You become beautiful the moment you decide to be unapologetically yourself.

Ironic but all of the “stuff” that women think they need to accumulate (beauty products, expensive designer clothes, plastic surgery, etc.) is really working against what it’s supposed to do. In fact, the more we accumulate and buy, the more “unbeautiful” we become because the focus is on the pressure to be like everyone else, hence robbing ourselves of the very essence of who we are. Define your own self, don’t allow anyone else to define who you are. Less is more.
Do you feel beautiful?
I do. There are days when I don’t, just like everyone else but I remind myself of all the things that I should be grateful for and that helps me gain perspective. I had major back surgery when I was 12 resulting in a giant scar and protrusion on the left side of my back. I used to hate it and felt hideous. It still bothers me sometimes but I’ve learned to embrace it for the most part. I look at it as a symbol of resilience and strength. I’ve endured pain but I’ve also overcome it.

Beauty for me leads first to the outside apparence.
